Municipalities have a role to play when it comes to addressing climate change.

Municipal Energy consumption

• Audit municipal buildings to establish an energy use baseline inventory and create an energy reduction plan

• Adopt an electric vehicle purchasing plan to gradually replace regular municipal vehicles with electric vehicles

wORKING WITH TMLP

• Establish a renewable energy goal for TMLP and implement a plan for achieving that goal

• Install LED streetlights throughout the City

Energy efficient Development

• Adopt the Massachusetts Stretch Code in order to ensure that new homes and buildings, as well as major renovation projects, are energy efficient

• Zone an area (or multiple areas) for by-right renewable energy facilities and create and expedited application and permitting process for these facilities

Green Community Designation

• Work with the relevant City departments, the MA Department of Energy Resources, and SRPEDD to implement the above and meet the criteria for Green Community designation

• Use the technical assistance and funding made available to implement these policies
