Downtown and Village Revitalization

We will use a three-pronged people-centered approach to revitalize our downtown and village centers: physical, social, and economic.

Physical

• Install raised crosswalks at key locations

• Add bike lanes on Main Street and key streets in village centers

• Reactivate key spaces, such as downtown and neighborhood parks

• Upgrade sidewalks (in village centers) to meet ADA accessibility standards

• Convert Taunton Green from a rotary style of traffic circulation to standard two-way streets

Social

• Work with the Downtown Taunton Foundation and other relevant stakeholders to have regular programming in key spaces

• Install signage that clearly displays the walkability of these areas, as well as their cultural and historical attractions

• Convert the “dorito” into a pedestrian plaza with cafe seating

Economic

• Promote mixed-use development, with small businesses on first-floors and housing on upper-floors

• Start a pop-up shop program to prove the market in these areas

• Expand the financial incentives available to new businesses

• Utilize the redevelopment authority to tackle larger projects
